Letter From the Editor

Dear Readers,

This edition of ActiveVoice includes job descriptions for three chapter posts, the Secretary, Hospitality Manager, and Membership Manager, all staffed by volunteers. In addition, the meeting reviews and chapter news and notes were provided by volunteers.

STC, at the national level, and the San Francisco chapter, in particular, depend on volunteers to function from month to month and from year to year. Although the chapter meets in a nice room with comfortable tables and chairs, power for a laptop and projector, and catered appetizers, volunteers do the real work. They arrange the myriad details to bring the meetings together; keep the chapter's financial records; inform the membership of upcoming events, learning opportunities, and references (have you checked the Resources page on the chapter Web site?); and respond to queries from you and the general public.

Many members tend to think of volunteering only when they need to use STC for networking when they're looking for a new job. Others are reluctant to volunteer because they don't have the stability of a job and are concerned that volunteering will be too costly. Our chapter needs your skills and time, regardless of your employment status. We welcome those who need to network, as well as those who have only a little free time. What can you do for your chapter? Email info@stc-sf.org to find out!

I'm looking forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming meetings.
