President's News and Notes
By Gilbert Gonzalez

Hello STC San Francisco chapter members,

This article contains several topics. I will recommend the STC Summit conference, STC resources that you may find helpful during this economic climate, and a free offer from the Aberdeen Group. I hope the following information is useful to your professional growth and job search.

The next opportunity to immerse yourselves in technical communication will be at the Technical Communication  Summit. The Technical Communication Summit, STC's 56th Annual Conference, will be held from Sunday, May 3 until Wednesday, May 6. STC has made scholarships available. See below for scholarship details.

250 Scholarships are Available

The STC has made available 250 scholarships of $400.00 to people who have been laid off, downsized, or forced to take a pay cut of 10% or more. To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

How to Apply for the scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-awarded basis. To apply for the scholarships, members should download the PDF of the Scholarship Registration Form (http://conference.stc.org/docs/2009-Summit-Scholarship-Registration-Form.pdf) and complete the section indicating their employment status prior to sending it with payment.

Note: The interactive, standard online registration form should not be used for scholarship applicants.

Completed forms may be faxed to the STC office at +1 (703) 522-2075 with credit card payment, or mailed with a check. Scholarship recipients will be notified within 48 hours. The scholarships will be offered until all are awarded or until 21 April.

A Note of Thanks

I want to thank the members of our chapter leadership for their continued involvement and contributions. Their hard work and dedication keeps the chapter moving forward. My gratitude is not complete without acknowledging the people who regularly attend our monthly meetings and engage our speakers with their own insights and questions. You truly help us to learn from one another.

Sincerely,

Gilbert Gonzalez
